Trip To The Art Museum

Ended the week with a much needed trip to the Cincinnati Art Museum. I highly recommend it! It is a free venue (except $4 for parking), with exceptional programs & galleries. It’s newest member of the museum is the Rosenthal Education Center, also free, offers a variety of hands-on activities that allow children to explore art everyday. They also offer a program called, Art In The Making, which has a screen printing class coming up next month!

During the visit we looked for familiar artists and discovered artists we had never heard of. Pretending we were art critics, we discussed the use of colors, art medium, and when it was created. Through-out the museum there were interactive children’s stations that allowed for “touch & learn” activities. These were especially great for my 1st grader, but all the boy’s enjoyed it! The interactive station below allowed the boys to write their names in Greek & Hieroglyphics.

The interactive stations through-out the museum included; making your own scroll, overlaying art, and many more. Here is my 1st grader using Japanese inspired magnetic pictures to make his own scroll.

Inside the Rosenthal Education Center we became artists ourselves by using a variety of materials provided. There also were I-Pad interactive centers that allowed you to mold your own pottery, place it in the fire, and paint it yourself! Below is my 1st grader:

They also enjoyed a building station, which allowed them to build while following a blueprint. Many blueprints to choose from!

The Cincinnati Art Museum is enjoyable for all ages. I was very excited about the visit myself because I am an art lover! While the children were interacting in the Rosenthal Education Center, so was I.
