The Roman Empire

Who isn’t a fan of gladiators, shields, swords, knights, kings & queens? We are ending the school year building coliseums, studying arches, knights, and the Roman empire. We are also studying artifacts during this time period.

We decided to use anything we could find to construct our own coliseum. It was left open for the boys to choose and plan. They decided to use Lego’s and construct with aluminum foil and tape.

We picked up many books from the library to aid with our studies this week:

During this study we will be discovering the story of Romulus & Remus, learning about the senate, aqueducts, The Golden Age of Literature, Titus Livius & Marcus Aurelius, what the calvalry & legions were, and much more.

We will also be discovering the architects of this time. Vitruvius was very famous, however, not much information about his work.

Of course, you can’t really visit Rome without learning about Julius Caesar.

We also included some Math activities developed around the study of the Roman Empire:

Some other websites to aid with studies:

Khan Academy detailed history

Ancient History detailed history & pictures

BM & AG Kids for online games

Thanks!
