Science Experiment Extravaganza

Writer's picture: Jessica BowmanJessica Bowman

This week has turned into a science experiment extravaganza.

Have you ever turned a raw egg into rubber?

Ever created milk art?

How about explosive rockets?

What about Fit an egg into a tall glass just with pressure?

We will also be trying science experiments in Steve Spangler’s books. He has some great ideas! He even has a science club that sends a box of science experiments right to your doorstep every month!

We haven’t tried it, because currently we are doing fine on our own, but if you wanted to take the “search” out of your science experiments this would be a great place to start.

We are also utilizing some books from our local library.

While reading through the kids will be answering a series of questions. We will be learning about physical maps, thematic maps, weather maps, symbols, keys, longitude, latitude, equator, and how we rely on maps each day.

Words we will be adding to our vocabulary this week:

Boil gas liquid matter solid granite obsidian shale sandstone sedimentary rock marble crust igneous rock mineral pressure sediment geologist metamorphic rocks

Some of our other books we will be reading are the following:

Learning About Rocks, By Mari Schuh

A Rock Is Lively, by Dianna Hutts

Rocks & Minerals, By Kathleen Weidner Zoehfeld

Jumping Into Science, Rocks, & Minerals, by Steve Tomecek

Bring Math into Science we will be creating a y-chart listing the various categories of rocks and then listing the names of each rock under that category. We will also be doing a rock cycle diagram:

There are some great videos out there when exploring igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks. Rocks Rock!!

On top of all of that, we will also be learning about coal in Kentucky & how it plays such a large part economically.

A great video we will be using is:

Thanks for visiting! If you have any cool science experiments you would like to share please add them to the comments section!

Look forward to hearing from you!
