Continuation of Art Appreciation

Ahhh Claude Monet. Who has NOT heard of him? This week we will be studying various pieces of his.

We start the week off with a fun piece about Monet. His work with caricatures. Early on in his career he earned a reputation for these caricatures.

The boys will be creating one of each other or someone in my family. Stay tuned! To learn how to draw a caricature yourself, follow this simple tutorial:

We will be creating a timeline of events leading up to his death, reading some famous quotes, learning about his family, and even discussing how Monet coped with Camille’s passing.

The week we will also be learning about impressionist style painting and watching tutorials on how to paint like Monet. We will be recreating his famous beach scenes, looking up steam trains and recreating some station paintings, and even dabbling in the infamous, Waterlilies.

Here is a quick video to introduce Monet:

On top of learning about famous artists this week we will be reading selected books for Black History month and watching the videos listed below:

The list of books we will be reading are as follows:

Big Mama’s by Donal Crews

Uncle Jed’s Barbershop by Margaree King Mitchell

Rosa by Nikki Giovanni

These books are a great way to tell the stories during the Civil Rights Movement. I hope you enjoy. There is also a great video on Rosa Parks, listed below:
