The summer seems to take forever getting here, but will be gone before we know it. Each summer I plan fun learning projects for the boys to do. This summer it’s all about math. When I told the boys that I heard, “math!” all in unison.
What they don’t know is that it will be fun and they won’t dread it!
Starting off we are building cities for the first couple of weeks. The boys are learning to scale, measure, and create models of different sized and shaped buildings. They are also designing the city’s layout, roadways, and bridges. Placement and drafts are happening right now. A subdivision is being planned below, with bigger infrastructures further away. I am really impressed with their design and how well they are working as a team.

Part of the next week will be finalizing the layout of the city and securing the buildings in the appropriated spaces. Then the final touches will be color and other intricate details.

Geometry is a major part in our everyday lives and we look over it. At the end of this activity I want the boys to be able to visualize dimensionally, critically think, analyze, and tackle advance planning. All in the meanwhile getting Mathed! Yes, I made that word up.
What are you planning to do with your kids this summer? Do you continue to do activities? Would love to hear from you!
